From September 25th to October 3rd, 2021, BLAUES RAUSCHEN will once again transform the Ruhr area into a laboratory for determining the current situation in the "digital" way. 6 days, 3 cities, 24 acts and projects - music, performances and installations. Tickets are available for 15 euros (reduced 11 euros) exclusively online in advance at www.blauesrauschen.de.
An individual topic is assigned to each festival evening. Concerts, performances, installations and lectures will take place in the three festival cities on a total of six days and at different venues. The artists appear - based on the Pecha Kucha lecture technique - in 20-minute slots and almost without a break.
Festival program:
Saturday, September 25, 2021 / 19:00 h / Bochum, Rotunde, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 3
Alloys The festival kicks off on the evening of September 25th with three experiments to merge digital and analogue sound and video technology. In “Songs of Cyborgoise” the duo BBB_ confronts the audience with utopian and dystopian worlds in which the boundaries between the human and the digital seem to merge. Electric Indigo aka. Susanne Kirchmayr uses digital dematerialization and fuses virtual metal molecules in an acoustic-visual media performance to create a resource-saving "industrial" sound with a minimum of energy consumption. In “Optical Machines” Rikkert Brok * combines light and sound to create unpredictable new creations.
* in cooperation with FAQ Festival for Electronic Music (NL)
In addition, the festival will present a total of 10 audio productions of 5 minutes each on the subject of forest and sound. Drought, fires, silence, trees, resource, climate, sound, animals, wood, wildlife, nature, atmosphere...explore the forest with your ears. Gather aesthetic experiences. Develop collages and compositions. Listening pieces by various international sound artists* will be presented in the Rotunde.
Wednesday, September 29, 2021 / 20:00 h / Bochum, atelier automatique, Rottstraße 14
Transaction/Correlation Perceiving relationships, making them perceptible and thereby experiencing new perspectives: In Bochum's "atelier automatique," a place of artistic and queer-feminist encounters, four acts spin rhizomatic webs that address encounter and correlation. In her performance, dancer Hyun Jin Kim investigates how the new digital body communicates in the face of increasing media overflow. Beyond visible bonds, the duo Freya Hattenberger/Peter Simon also draws attention to relationships with non-human beings in a bioacoustic experiment. In her hybrid vocal assemblages, violist Julia Eckhardt* steers us back to the affective qualities of language and sound and allows these to animate her instrumental improvisations. Caroline Profanter* weaves the audience into a web of microtonal feedbacks until it is no longer possible to distinguish between origin and echo.
*in cooperation with Q-02 workspace for experimental music and sound art (B)
Thursday, September 30, 2021 / 20:00 h / Dortmund, Mex-Keller/Künstlerhaus, Sunderweg 1
Mex Appeal goes Blaues Rauschen: Exploring Borders The evenings in the cellar of the Dortmund Künstlerhaus are legendary; intermedial and experimental music projects characterize the unique series Mex Appeal. Thus, the encounter of Blaues Rauschen and Mex Appeal will also be an evening full of contrasts, deliberately crossing the boundaries between sound, listening, performance, music and material: Miki Yui takes us into her solar-powered art laboratory and brings nature and technology into dialogue. Liz Allbee pushes the boundaries of pure physics of her trumpet's valve technology with the help of electronic and digital self-constructed extensions. And Wei Kang Beh creates an intermedia energy flow of image and sound by displacing a graphically animated object.
Friday, October 1, 2021 / 19:00 h / ATTENTION: New venue ! AmVieh-Theater, Viehofer Platz 19, 45127 Essen, Germany.
Dichotomy - Nature/Culture The view of progressive environmental destruction and climate change shakes our understanding of what is natural and what is artificially created. How meaningful is our activity in the face of these questions? Echo Ho, Bellchild and Ozan Tekin discuss this issue by incorporating naturally occurring and arbitrary sounds and sound sequences into compositions, merging them with synthetically generated sounds. The Gruppe Moment stages the interaction of man/machine and artist/audience.
Saturday, October 2, 2021 / 20:00 h / Dortmund, Tresor.West, Phoenixplatz*
Transmissions We close our eyes to escape unwanted impressions. With the ears this is not so easy - one cannot "not hear". On this evening, three artists* will try to put the permeability of our mental membrane to the test. The Swiss Bit-Tuner leads us into a world of doubts and irritations, which can be experienced as a film with a corresponding soundtrack. Rasmus Nordholt-Frieling penetrates various musical genres and epochs and constructs his very own groove cosmos from his heterogeneous sonic materials. Pan Daijing confronts the audience with gloomy drones and stumbling patterns and the unease of a dystopian vision diffusing into our senses.
*Attention: Currently there is no regular club operation at Tresor.West in Dortmund. It is currently only open for individual special events, such as our event on 02.10.2021 as part of BLAUES RAUSCHEN. In this way, Tresor.West specifically supports creative impulses for the regional cultural scene and night culture. Tickets for this event will be offered exclusively online in advance via www.blauesrauschen.de - the box office at Tresor.West will be closed on this day
Sunday, October 3, 2021 / 15:00 h / Essen, Galerie Gublia, Kreuzeskirchstraße 3
Algorithmic Composition & Distribution An unexpected frenzy in terms of the importance and use of digital means has characterized life in recent months - to work, to communicate and not least to distribute artistic works. With two lecture-performances by Enrique Tomás and Balázs Kovács, BLAUES RAUSCHEN wants to draw attention to how and to what extent technical developments and artistic options can be conditioned, influenced and used alternatively. The project "Forest and Sound" will also be presented at the Gublia Gallery (see above). Admission to this event is free, but tickets must be pre-ordered online.
Sunday, October 3, 2021 / 18:00 h / Essen, Casa/Box at Schauspiel Essen, Theaterpassage, Theaterplatz 7
Control Technical developments expand the possibilities of artistic production and interaction with the audience. How we keep control over ourselves and also our technical environment with our behavior is examined by the three live performances and a sound installation. Irritation, arousal and calming - emotional and physiological parameters control the sonic and visual elements of Claudia Robles-Angel's performance SKIN. The trio die ANGEL, on the other hand, uses technology to question these: instruments are "misused" and the feedback sound here is not only a sound phenomenon but also an interactive moment between the three artists*. Australian Jasmine Guffond subverts ubiquitous surveillance techniques and makes tracking data streams sound - a seething, disorienting journey between ambient club music and dystopian soundtracks. Graphic artist Ilan Katin animates this live from patterns and drawn shapes. And in the interactive installation "SoundVision" by Max Schweder, we ourselves become part of a virtual image.
All events are subject to a strict hygiene protection concept for the protection of the participants. We will publish and update current admission conditions on the festival website. We are looking forward to exciting festival days and extraordinary encounters. --
