From mid to end of August 2019, an international sound art summer school will be held in Mainz, Germany. Invited by Prof. Peter Kiefer, two of the most internationally renowned sound artists today will teach master classes for artists and students from all over the world. The course will be delivered by Bernhard Leitner (Vienna), Miya Masaoka (New York) and Peter Kiefer (Mainz). The program will include theoretical sessions with experts in the field in order to facilitate exchange and debate among the participants

Sound artists, young professionals, scholars, students and graduates of art, music, design and architecture-related courses of study, etc.

Programme

The Gutenberg Sound Art Academy offers an artistic and theory-based certificate programme in the field of sound art. The programme will take place from 19 to 25 August 2019.

Participants will work closely in artistic masterclasses with the artists Bernhard Leitner (Vienna), Miya Masaoka (New York) and Peter Kiefer (Mainz). They will have the opportunity to be mentored by the artists and will receive valuable input and ideas which they can apply to their own artistic work. To facilitate exchange and debate among the participants, theory sessions on how to exhibit, curate and communicate sound art will constitute part of the weeklong course.

The Exhibiting Sound Art Symposium will follow at the weekend. Museum directors, scholars, journalists and editors will explore the variety of relations between sound as an object of investigation. Issues of sound as a medium of art and culture and possibilities and conditions of exhibiting sound art will be discussed.

Annette Vande Gorne will give her spatial interpretation internship at the Senghor Cultural Center in Brussels on the Influx Acousmonium.

If there is one internship that is totally open to all audiences from 16 years of age, it is this one. In five days, under the experienced direction (40 years of concerts) of Annette Vande Gorne, honorary professor of composition and spatialized interpretation at the Royal Conservatory of Mons, we learn to hear space, to create imaginary spaces, movements that magnify acousmatic music on a set of diversified speakers, an acousmonium arranged throughout the room. It is closed with a concert by the trainees who have learned all the space figures on Francis Dhomont's Espace Escape, Annette Vande Gorne's Figures d'Espace and some works of their choice. This internship is a gateway to the imaginary sound world of cinema for the ear and its mental representation.
