From mid to end of August 2019, an international sound art summer school will be held in Mainz, Germany. Invited by Prof. Peter Kiefer, two of the most internationally renowned sound artists today will teach master classes for artists and students from all over the world. The course will be delivered by Bernhard Leitner (Vienna), Miya Masaoka (New York) and Peter Kiefer (Mainz). The program will include theoretical sessions with experts in the field in order to facilitate exchange and debate among the participants

Who can apply?
Sound artists, young professionals, scholars, students and graduates of art, music, design and architecture-related courses of study, etc.

Programme

The Gutenberg Sound Art Academy offers an artistic and theory-based certificate programme in the field of sound art. The programme will take place from 19 to 25 August 2019.
Participants will work closely in artistic masterclasses with the artists Bernhard Leitner (Vienna), Miya Masaoka (New York) and Peter Kiefer (Mainz). They will have the opportunity to be mentored by the artists and will receive valuable input and ideas which they can apply to their own artistic work. To facilitate exchange and debate among the participants, theory sessions on how to exhibit, curate and communicate sound art will constitute part of the weeklong course.
The Exhibiting Sound Art Symposium will follow at the weekend. Museum directors, scholars, journalists and editors will explore the variety of relations between sound as an object of investigation. Issues of sound as a medium of art and culture and possibilities and conditions of exhibiting sound art will be discussed.

The symposium is free of charge and open to the public.
The course programme also includes an exhibition of works by Bernhard Leitner, Miya Masaoka and Peter Kiefer.
