SMC 2018 - 15TH SOUND AND MUSIC COMPUTING CONFERENCE “SONIC CROSSINGS”
4 – 7 JULY 2018 AT CYPRUS UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, LIMASSOL

Deadline for music submissions: 22 March 2018

The SMC 2018 Organizing Committee welcomes you to the 15th Sound and Music Computing Conference hosted in Limassol, Cyprus and invites composers to submit works for fixed media (electroacoustic sounds or audiovisual), installation, or mixed media performance including Chronos Ensemble (Piano, Clarinet, flute, percussion, Violin), Artefacts Ensemble (Violin, Viola, Clarinet, Saxophone, Percussion) - http://artefactsensemble.gr/ and Anna d’Errico (Piano). Works which deal with the following themes are especially encouraged:




Topic I - Music at the Borders
Engaging with Folk Music in contemporary contexts
Sounds of Tradition
Responding to past and present
Topic II - Interfaces, Interactions, and Improvisation
New musical interfaces/instruments
Exploration of gestures and what they trigger
The performer as the composer: new directions in improvisation

Deadline and Notification
Deadline for music submissions: 22 March 2018
Notification of music acceptance: 30 April 2018

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ANONYMOUS. REMOVE ALL MENTION OF AUTHOR(S) ON ALL MATERIALS SUBMITTED OR ON ANYTHING PERTAINING TO THE WORK AND ITS DOCUMENTATION.

Submission Form 
All works will be submitted only online through the SMC 2018 easyconferences.org website. Artists should submit stereo audio files or video files of their pieces (via an accessible online link like Vimeo, YouTube, SoundCloud, etc.).
The call is open to all composers regardless of nationality, age or career stage. Works should not exceed 15 minutes. Works of 10 minutes or less are strongly encouraged!
Please submit all files without any author information to allow for blind review. 
Note: For all sound/video files, you may upload your non-pdf file on a storing service (e.g. Dropbox) or a streaming platform (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud), and paste the unlisted link(s) below.
Please note that only one work per composer will be programmed. In case your piece is selected, you will need to pay the registration fee and are generally expected to attend the conference.

A list of available equipment can be found on the Venues webpage. If any additional equipment is required, proposals should specify what can be provided by the artist/composer and what the conference is expected to provide.
Performer(s): Please state if you intend to bring your own performer(s) or if you would like your piece to be performed by performers provided by SMC.
Technical Requirements: Installation proposals must include a spatial/physical diagram.

5) Sound Installations
We seek sound installations to be presented in one of the designated areas for the duration of the conference. Basic video projection and sound reinforcement will be provided. Artists will be responsible for bringing all other necessary equipment.
6) Listening Room 
Fixed media works not selected for concert presentation may be programmed in one of the listening rooms. Please indicate on the submission form if you do not wish to be considered for this option.
