Thuluth Magda Mayas: piano + objects Ute Wassermann: voice + objects Raed Yassin: double bass + objects and lots of other exciting acts!
Berlin-based acoustic ensemble Thuluth - arabic for one third - thrives on deep sonic trust and long-standing musical friendships. Formed after their first trio set at Irtijal Festival in Beirut (2016). The group’s approach is vivid, dynamic, and often playfully ironic: conventional palettes of piano, bass, and voice are subverted into abstract sound worlds where roles blur and unexpected resonances unfold. The result is strange and beautiful music that feels electric despite its purely acoustic means.
Plankturutaña is a performance piece by the trio of composer-performers Ute Wassermann, Marina Cyrino and Merche Blasco. The piece explores sonic interactions between invented and expanded instruments, DIY electronics, field recordings, and voice, creating a speculative environment that interweaves human, animal and technological sounds. Merche Blasco uses custom thimble microphones to capture electromagnetic activity from household appliances, combined with hydrophones and contact mics that amplify the resonant properties of different organic materials. Marina Cyrino plays extended flutes made out of disassembled parts and objects, and “Urutau,” a rotating wheel that amplifies dried leaves and twigs, creating rhythmic patterns. Ute Wassermann expands her voice with bird whistles and sings into a "planktonia-aquarium" that serves as a miniature habitat, where underwater vibrations are transformed into a metallic-technological soundscape, creating an imaginary acoustic habitat.

… The listening experience may leave you shocked but guarantees tons of fun. If you can imagine rare, colorful birds, with a flair for dadaist mischief, dance along anarchistic techno grooves that threaten to melt your brain, you may get closer to what happened in this outstanding performance… (Eyal Hareuveni, The Free Jazz Collective, April 2021)

Looking Back: Oct 11 10 - 13:00 Workshop School of Voice La Capella Barcelona Curated by Laia Estruch
Exploring the voice as a sound instrument in the amazing acoustics of La Capella!
The School of Voice is conceived as a laboratory for the investigation of phenomena related to the voice within Contemporary Art. The school wants to delve into the knowledge of the voice as raw material, instrument, device and space for experimentation of proposals that investigate the aerial conditions and the emotional possibilities of the voice. In this edition, the Voice School is testing an intensive day model with two workshops that will take place on October 10 and 11 at La Capella. The workshops will be with Ute Wassermann and Elena Aitzkoa.
