I would like to invite you to my upcoming installative performance, which I am very excited about!

for an augmented snare drum and spatialized quadraphonic snare drum speakers

Description: 

"i will keep drawing circles until it becomes a picture" is an installative composition and performance for an electronically augmented snare drum and spatialized quadraphonic snare drum speakers. 

Sound artist Viola Yip has been developing new instruments and new musical interfaces that allow for new forms of music to emerge. In some projects she has been developing these instruments for herself to perform. In other projects she develops conceptual compositions and instruments for other musicians to use and to perform unusual relationships between media, materiality, space and their musical bodies. 

Percussionist Etienne Nillesen has a long standing practice incorporating sonic materialities between his drum and the corresponding performing tools, as well as the resonating properties of the drum, into his improvisations and compositions. 

In this collaboration, Nillesen and Yip develop a performative installation that aims to widen the musical possibilities by developing electronic extensions of multiple snare drums. With this piece they ask how a snare drum could become an interface for acoustic and electronic sounds that blurs the line between these two seemingly opposite sonic worlds through body gestures and touch.
