View this email in your browser Dear members of Sonology’s concert mailing list,    You are cordially invited to Sonology's final presentations on 21, 22 and 23 June 2024, and Siamak Anvari's final PhD screening/concert on 24 June, 2024.  The final presentation concerts on 21, 22, and 23 June will take place in Amare Studio on the third floor of the Amare building at Spuiplein 150, 2511 DG Den Haag. Please note that all concerts start at 19:00.  Siamak Anvari's final PhD screening/concert on 24 June at 16:00 will take place in the New Music Lab.  Sonology Final Presentations: Friday 21 June, 19:00  Works by Lawrence Mc Guire, Oscar Peters, Ege Şahin and Elif Gülin Soğuksu.    Saturday 22 June, 19:00  Works by Liza Kuzyakova, Roc Montoriol Torrent, Gyuchul Moon and Adomas Palekas.    Sunday 23 June, 19:00  Works by Amit Dagim, Jacob Eckhardt and Gaia Heichal.    Admission and drinks are free.      Please be on time or even better, 15 minutes early. Doors are closed once the concert has started.   Directions to Amare Studio: When you enter the ground floor of Amare, proceed to the middle where the elevators are located. Press "3" for the third floor before you enter the elevator (or alternatively take the escalator up to the third floor). When you arrive on the third floor, walk toward the lighted "Stadskantine" sign above and turn left to walk past the restrooms. Proceed straight forward through the glass doors to Amare Studio.    Adomas Palekas will also exhibit works at Trixie, Scheldestraat 1–11, 2515 TA Den Haag. The exhibition will start on 19 June at 18:00 with a performance and will be open on 20 and 21 June from 14:00–19:00. On Saturday 22 June the exhibition will end on at 16:00 with kwass pouring and tasting.  Monday 24 June, 16:00, New Music Lab Screening/concert: 'Materialisation of Fixed Media Music’ by Siamak Anvari Photo by Siamak Anvari Siamak Anvari's dissertation examines the public presentation of fixed media electroacoustic music and investigates the performative capacities which are involved in materialising such music, in order to shed light on the question of what performing means in the context of fixed media music, which is prefabricated and presented through loudspeakers in a concert venue. While electroacoustic music production has been the main focus of academic work in this area in recent decades, less attention has been given to its public presentation. Through the process of composing a series of fixed media works and presenting them in various circumstances, Siamak Anvari formulates an understanding of the important elements involved in such process. This has resulted in the emergence of concepts and strategies which ground the composition within its performance context, so that the work comes to full existence only in the performance space. Such perspectives shift the focus from the (alleged) fixity of the medium towards the diversity and wealth of the listening experiences that it can engender. This dissertation also includes an audiovisual part; complementary and of equal importance to the written component, by simultaneously expressing its central ideas and demonstrating them in the form of a multichannel fixed media work. The audiovisual component of this research will be presented in form of a screening/concert in the New Music Lab on the 6th floor of Amare. Directions to the New Music Lab:  When you enter on the ground floor of Amare, proceed to the middle where the elevators are located. Press “6” for the sixth floor before you enter the elevator. Take the elevator up to the sixth floor (Institute of Sonology) and proceed through the glass doors directly into the New Music Lab which is straight ahead.
