Introducing our first project in Brandenburg — Heimat, Herz, Orte at Galerie Bernau | July - December 2021

Heimat, Herz, Orte @ Galerie Bernau

Introducing Heimat, Herz, Orte at the Galerie Bernau in Brandenburg w/ Julia Reidy, Brendan Dougherty, Kenichi & The Sun, Stella Chiweshe, & Rolf Hansen.

Dear friends and music lovers,

We are happy to present our first concert series in Brandenburg. Just north-east of Berlin, by the gates of the beautiful Naturpark Barnim. Six Berlin-based musicians will perform in the Galerie Bernau amidst art exhibitions that reflect on the notions of home, identity & belonging. The concerts are free to the public.

Galerie Bernau is a municipal space for contemporary art, located in the heart of the historic city centre. Artists and art lovers founded the gallery in 1989, making it the last non-commercial gallery to be founded during the GDR.

This year, the gallery is exhibiting works focusing on the theme Heimat, Herz, Orte (Home, Heart, Places).

Over six weekends, Digital in Berlin will present a Berlin-based international artist for an intimate acoustic session inside the gallery. In the spirit of our Kiezsalonseries, a stylistically diverse programme of 30-minute concerts will take place amongst the exhibitions.

Following the concerts, we will have DJ-sets in the adjoining gallery courtyard under the open sky. Guests can enjoy local beers while getting to know their not-so-distant neighbours.

The series starts next Saturday (24.07) with a performance from Australian experimental guitarist Julia Reidy, a Kiezsalon favourite after her performance at last year’s summer salon at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

Originally from Philadelphia, Berlin-based sound artist Brendan Dougherty will perform in August, followed by Austrian drummer Katharina Ernst, who performed two years ago at our MADEIRADiG festival.

Moving into Autumn, we present introspective pop musician Kenichi & The Sun, followed by the Queen of Mbira Stella Chiweshe from Zimbabwe, and finishing in December with mastermind baroque guitarist Rolf Hansen.
