Position Summary |
The
Jacobs School of Music seeks a composer of electroacoustic music,
including works that feature live electronics or combine acoustic
instruments with electronic sound, to teach courses in and contribute to
other activities of the Center for Electronic and Computer Music (CECM).
Responsibilities will include
(1) teaching courses for composition students at all levels as well as for students outside the Jacobs School of Music;
(2) assisting the CECM director in planning and supervising the production of CECM concerts and maintaining the CECM studios;
(3)
participating in Composition Department activities, including
recruitment, and serving on Jacobs School of Music committees;
(4)
providing guidance for composition students, faculty and JSoM ensembles
utilizing electronics and computer music on recitals and concerts;
(5)
serving as a minor field representative on doctoral advising committees
for DM students minoring in Electronic and Computer Music; and
(6) maintaining an active career as a composer of electroacoustic music.

Basic Qualifications |
Composer
with a growing national reputation, including significant performances
and recognition, and preferably with performances at electroacoustic
music conferences (such as SEAMUS and ICMC).
Broad
knowledge of the history and techniques of electroacoustic music.
Ability to teach commonly used digital audio workstation software and
computer music languages (preferably including Max). Experience setting
up and running electroacoustic concerts.
The
ideal candidate will be able to relate to the concerns of students
having a wide variety of musical backgrounds. Master’s degree in
Composition required. Doctorate in Composition preferred; commensurate
professional experience will be given equal consideration.
