sic! Artist talk with Nandita Kumar Sounding the Quintessential
Moderated by Prof. Kirsten Reese, UNI.K Studio / UdK Lietzenburger Straße 45, 10789 Berlin, Room 315 14 February 2023, 7 pm Over the last decade, Nandita Kumar’s projects have become heavily research based that has led her to become interested in “environmental-data”, its representation and how one communicates that to the larger audience. Her data-driven artistic experiment probes through a given topic through its nature, scarcity, politics, interdependency, utility etc. and simultaneously explores methods of engaging audiences through these interactive installations. The talk will trace Nandita’s artistic process and draw a web of networked thoughts, where her varied interests such as a researcher, sound, experimental film and animation, electronics and interactivity, community engagement, book building, system design; have all culminated into one cohesive language. It will explore fundamental questions whether this experience presented be more intuitive and creative for the viewer, in order to build new neural networks and draw insights from the data presented.
Nandita Kumar, born 1981 in Pamplemousse, Mauritius, based in Goa/India and currently fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin program, is a new-media artist who works at the intersection art, environmental science, technology and community.
