“The artistic process of creating a live performance—whether a play, musical, opera, dance, symphony, or other collaborative work—invariably requires the formation of a new community. It is a community comprised of the generative artists, performers, behind-the-scenes makers, and administrators doing the ever-complex labor of creating the organizational vehicle that delivered the mission behind the performance. They have all agreed to make something together and create moments with an audience of vital, honest human-to-human exchange. It is why the arts are eternal. No matter the challenges or shifts in the world, from war to recession to pandemic, we share a need to create community through art and to witness the collaboration of those called to make it.”
