BERLIN - Kiezsalon 2023 complete! Thank you and ciao for winter break

 

View in browser Dear friends and music lovers,   Last Wednesday, we wrapped up the Kiezsalon for 2023 with a final sold-out show, hosted for the first time at NOME. It was especially fitting to conclude the season in the Kiezsalon's original format: an intimate setting, midweek and featuring two concerts.    We hope you enjoyed the pairing of Cian Dayrit's artworks and music by Will Samson and Freddie Murphy. Revisit the evening with our pictures. We will now take a break as we head to MADEIRADiG and turn our focus to curating our 2024 program. We will return in April for our opening at the Akademie der Künste.   In the meantime, we are happy to present a couple of exciting Berlin shows over the next week. Kicking off tonight is the Handcrafted Tributes Festival at studioboerne45, celebrating the collaboration of electronic music and modular synthesis. Artists like Max Loderbauer, Michael Vorfeld and Rabih Beaini team up with the Stefan Schultze Large Ensemble for talks, sessions and concerts from November 16-18. This Sunday, Japanese-born trumpeter Takuya Kuroda will be playing at Gretchen. The NYC-based artist has developed a unique hybrid sound, blending soulful jazz, funk, post-bop, fusion and hip hop. Pitchfork wrote about his 2020 release Fly Moon Die Soon stating that he "skillfully synthesizes his influences, hitting sweet spots that feel purely of his own creation". Liz Harris (aka Grouper) presents a new live show ENGINE as Nivhek. The piece developed from a decade-long obsession with engine noise. Accompanied by a film from Takashi Makino, the work combines field recordings with synthesizers and electronics. Witness ENGINE next Thursday, November 23 at silent green's Kuppelhalle. This year's Kiezsalon took us on a journey around the city, featuring more than 80% Berlin premieres, with almost every show selling out.   Thank you for trusting our taste, staying curious and travelling across Berlin.
