Out of home by BELLCHILD noise vs noise by Ozan Tekin zo-on slows by Echo Ho
(recorded 01.10.2021 at the AmVieh-Theater in Essen)
Framed in field recordings that make their home, the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, audible and thus tangible, the two sound researchers Tarek Zarroug and Henning Pszczola operate under the band name BELLCHILD. Freed from all genre limitations and with the urge to create something new and put the old familiar into a new context, their music moves between driving electro-acoustic rhythms, dreamy vocals and synthetically generated sound worlds.
From his time in Istanbul, Ozan Tekin has taken the enormous noise level of the metropolis with him as a constant reminder and has now developed a sound set as an acoustic antipole. The experienced sound engineer mixes and morphs his analogue and digital synthesizers with original audio signals to create a mediative, pulsating soundscape with urban crescendos: the chaos, insecurity and various mental states of city life emerge again and again between the seemingly calming ambient collages.
Field recording meets glitchy beats on Echo Ho, polyphonic vocals mix with unusual instrumental sounds from a musical narrative tradition that seems equally distant in time and space. Echo Ho works on a recomposition of the classical Guqin repertoire (Chinese GuZheng, string instrument) in combination with cultures of the slime mould physarum polycephalum growing in a separately created electrical habitat. In a fictitious system of relationships, mutual communication between a human and a monocellular organism is made possible here.
