FWD - THE SYNTHESEWING CONSTRUCTION ORCHESTRA

THE SYNTHESEWING CONSTRUCTION ORCHESTRA

a building site for sewing and sound

15.10. – 22.10.2022

opening hours 16-20 Uhr

(or by appointment: agentecostura@gmail.com)

a continuous building site for self playing, oscillating, blinking, touch sensitive, light sensitive, talking, soft, found, stitched, glitched, and hacked instruments, acting and reacting in an ever fluctuating state of chaos.

it’s all a matter of resistance.

The synthesewing construction orchestra is an interactive performative sound installation, as well as an open space for construction and deconstruction of machines, emphasising collective making as strategy for a queer feminist activism. An invitation to do it together: all are welcome to build, play, cut up clothes or cut up cables — there will be sewing machines, needles, scissors, and soldering irons.

The synthesewing construction orchestra will be installed at Errant Sound between October 14.-22., open for visitation between 4-9pm.

A tentative schedule of activities invites participation in constructing and playing the orchestra. The schedule is still under construction, like the orchestra.

A soft opening on Saturday 15.10. will feature some members of VROUW!

The finissage on Saturday 22.10. will be a public recording session.

Friday 14.10. – aufbau

Saturday 15.10. – soft opening

with: Angela Muñoz, Dafne Narvaez Berlfein, Federica Teti, Guido Henneböhl, Jeremy Woodruff, Jo, Kata Kovács, Kris Slyka, Lisa Simpson, Salomé Lubczanski, Tristen Bakker, Todosch Schlopsnies, and curious visitors.

Lisa Simpson (Agente Costura) hacks sewing machines — symbol of patriarchal oppression and capitalist exploitation — and trash devices into synthesised sound machines, talking hats and singing suitcases. Lisa’s artistic practice with analog circuitry and stitching is rooted in upcycling, skill sharing and craftivism. Lisa has a Bachelor degree in Visual Arts from Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná, a Master of Applied Arts degree from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and is a recent graduate of the Institute for Art in Context at Universität der Künste Berlin. She has performed extensively on an international level, including Goethe Institut Jakarta, Schneidertempel Istanbul, Akademie der Künste, HKW, The Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum der Fünf Kontinente Munich, the Bimhuis Amsterdam, Curitiba Fashion Week, among others. Lisa currently lives and works in Berlin, and is involved in a range of different projects in collaboration with artists and interested audiences.

Lisa Simpson is grateful for the support of Musikfonds and Errant Sound for the opportunity to show the synthesewing construction orchestra as a work in progress.
